Ninth Film Festival - Local Focus 3 - Report and Results

Dear Friends and Sponsors of the Local Focus 3 Film Festival:

Thank you all so much for attending and supporting our recent film festival. We hope you enjoyed the 28 great works by our talented film-makers. These films each year proves that we have truly talented filmmakers who need to be recognized, taken care of, and celebrated. That's why Local Focus Film Festival was created. And with your continuous support and the support of our community and sponsors we will continue celebrating the love of film and paying tribute to our filmmakers and producers. Someone called this festival the Local Oscars.

We were lucky this year to get grants from Ontario Arts Council and Region of Waterloo Arts Fund in the amount of $10000. Around 60% of this budget went to filmmakers and producers as an artist's fees and cash prizes, another 10% went for trophies and certificates, and the rest of the amount went for the festival expenses.

Local Focus 3 was a very successful celebration and we are very thankful for the many volunteers who helped make it happen.

We are also thankful for all our sponsors: Ontario Art Council, Region of Waterloo Arts Fund, The City of Kitchener, Gen X, Princess Cinema, Neruda Productions, The Walper Terrace Hotel, Waterloo Regional Arts Council, Waterloo Region Record, Media Producers of Ontario (mpGO).

This was the biggest turnout we have had to date for a film festival. 636 people attended the festival, with an average of 106 people per screening.

The festival had three kinds of awards for the filmmakers: 24 hour film challenge, People's Choice Awards and Jury Awards.

The winner in 24 hour film challenge will get $150 from MPGO. And both winner and 1st Runner Up in 24 hour film challenge will earn a certificate and $250 credits for HD Equipment Package & One Year Membership at The Multicultural Cinema Club (MCC).
