Third Multicultural Film Festival Report and Results

The event was FREE and dedicated to Local filmmakers. Martin de Groot, Trudy Beaulne, Majdi Bou Mater, Philip Bast and Rob Daniels were introducing the films to the audience and conducting the discussions after screenings every night.

This event was organized by Multicultural Cinema Club: Azam Fouk Aladeh and Margaret O'Shea Bonner.

On the five nights we had:

  • 224 people attended the festival, an average of 44 people per day
  • 183 people voted for the films
  • 85% of people attended the discussions after screenings

Movies Screened

We screened three music videos "Crutch", "Never Lose Sight", and "Midnight Radar", all directed by Michael Mercy. They were chosen because they were telling a story, and were not included in the competition.

Viewer's Choice Results

We asked the audience each night to vote and rank the movies they saw. Prizes were given by MCC to each winner in each category. The winners are filmmakers who got the most votes from audience for their films won for their category.

The Short Film Category:

  • Third Place: Eve (Krzysztof Pietroszek) with a score of 3980
  • Second Place: The Passenger (Michael Mercy) with a score of 4440
  • And the people's choice award for short film category went to: The Red Button (Angus R. McLellan) with a score of 4520

The Documentary Film Cateogry:

  • Second Place: Change Now, Now What? (andrea k. bennett and Kaitlin Schwan) with a score of 1880
  • And the people's choice award for documentary film category went to: Legacy of the Heart (Azam Fouk Aladeh) with a score of 3000

The Feature Film Category:

  • Second Place: Solarwind (Roger Albrecht) with a score of 2340
  • And the people's choice award for feature film category went to: Sleeping Dogs (Terrance Odette) with a score of 2780

Social Justice Award:

This award was created by Social Planning Council to encourage making movies about social justice and community involvement. The winner movie for this award was Legacy of the Heart (Azam Fouk Aladeh).
