This film offers an exquisitely crafted view of Iran in 1953, when a British- and American-backed coup removed the democratically elected government. It weaves together the stories of four women during those traumatic days, whose experiences are shaped by their faith and the social structures in place. The social, political, and psychological dimensions of these characters are explored as they meet in a metaphorical garden, existing and reflecting on the complex intellectual and religious forces shaping their world.

Despite the drawbacks, Muharrem cannot refuse the insistent sheik and agrees. However, the job forces him into moral conflicts that irreversibly disrupt the balances of his small world.
